Make Garden Decor from Stones

by Cindy Myers

Gardens may not appeal to us Americans, in the same way that they do to those from the United Kingdom or to people who live in other European cities. Nevertheless, we Americans do know how to tend to our gardens.

Though we don’t value these green places for the tea parties that we hold in them and though we do like a good, wide, and lush lawn for those barbecues that we love to have; there’s plenty to do to get a pretty garden. Now, there’s something that we sure do know how to do. We sure know how to make things pretty.

Now, for those of us who don’t own gardens which are as big as our houses and aren’t quite as big or large enough to boast about; they remain parts of our houses just the same. It won’t hurt us to add some garden decor here and there now, would it? It sure wouldn’t hurt and there are many enjoyable ways to do that.

For gardens which start from the porch and extend to a perimeter that’s just about where your lawn begins, why not plot out, on the grass, an array of flat stones painted over with a design? The design on the stones can be anything you’d like but here’s a suggestion.

You’re to use more than one stone for this example. Choose one of these thin stones, black or white in color, and begin working on it with the body of a bumblebee, in mind. Go on with painting this design until you’ve painted on enough stones to form a bee. After you’ve finished, arrange the stones in your garden like a lei of flowers. Begin at the right side of your garden’s grass until you’ve reached the left side.

The number of arrangements made of these painted stones depends on you. Keep in mind that they’re for your garden and not for your lawn or front yard. Use acrylic paints or spray dyes for this garden decor project. Remember to coat your stones over with varnish in order to seal the paint and protect it from rain.

Your design choices are endless. You can take this bumblebee idea and use it; or you could choose designs of flowers you love; or you could go for the more intricate patterns like marbled paint, kaleidoscope swirls, and psychedelic hearts. There’s an almost infinite list of possibilities for you, out there.

If you didn’t like this bumblebee pattern, you might like the next one. For garden decorations which can say things about your stylish and trend-setting personality, go with a design made from photos transferred unto your stones. You can have them made, in shops, or you can order them online. Photos of you with your friends or family printed on these stones will look great, once they’re in your garden. For prints which aren’t as personal, choose from images of famous artworks or celebrities. Your choice can be based on just about anything that you’d like, and it doesn’t have to be a very obvious choice. It can be a mix of all your choices.

While ordering photo transfers for your garden decor stone aren’t that expensive, they’re not cheap, either. If you’re willing to part with the extra cash for decorations that are really eye-catching, then go ahead. Spend, spend, spend, and keep your neighbors talking about your trendy garden.
