Use Color Carefully For A Restful Bedroom

Stress, stress, stress! Everywhere we turn today, there’s some new crisis to deal with. That’s why we love to spend so much time at home in our bedrooms, where we can relax. The trick, however, is to recognize that the colors we use in our bedroom decor have a significant influence on whether our bedroom can truly become a sanctuary.

According to home design experts we should use colors that are close to nature in order to relax and nurture the soul.

With the trend toward neutrals in all home decorating this year, neutral colors also are finding their way into bedrooms; in area rugs, in sheets and in curtains too. However, these neutrals aren’t blah or stark, being softened by combinations of green and brown that have been popular recently.

It’s important to choose the right shades of green though, say designers. That’s because some hues, such as acid green, can be more stimulating than restful. Furthermore, it’s a good idea to compare the green shade to you skin tone, because it will be reflected in your mirror and on your skin. That last thing you want is to glance in your bedroom mirror and see yourself as a sickly green alien. Go for cozy, not cosmic.

The environmental generation is bringing back the classic colors like blue and green. It’s about choosing colors that are restful. For example green is the color of plants and trees. Blue reminds you of water and sky. Blue is also considered a cool color that can cleanse and sooth. It still remains the number one choice of color for the bedroom.

Have you every thought about lavender for your bedroom? Lavender is a calming color. Lavender goes well with green and lavender can be placed in bed linen spray and sachets for your drawers and closets. But don’t go overboard with it.

One color that you usually don’t see in a bedroom is pink. This is not generally a relaxing color but it is breaking out of the mold this year.

Believe it or not, pink – not the pastel pink of a girl’s room, but a vibrant shade warmed with a slight yellow undertone – is turning up as the eye-popping exception to overall trends. Pink has been a powerful shade in fashion for both women and men over the past year, and that energy has now moved into home decorating, particularly in the bedroom.

If these color combinations sound TOO restful, then consider adding a touch of glamour to the bedroom decor. This could take the form of a wall covered in silk fabric (in the bedroom’s color scheme of course) or a crystal chandelier, or gold accents in bed linens, area rugs, glassware and other accessories.

What really matters is the bedroom is a relaxing place for you and it brings your personality out. You should feel happy and relaxed when you are in your bedroom.
